#1: This Birding Life

TBL was launched by the late Bill Thompson III in 2007. Bill was a pioneer in the birding industry in many ways. As a true visionary, Bill was one of the first to produce a cutting-edge podcast on the topic of bird watching. In fact, Bill recorded and produced this podcast himself for more than 10 years. As a musician, sound engineer, and recording artist, he had a true ear for sound. He was also a world-class birder and excellent communicator, and our wealth of TBL podcasts includes interviews with some of the most interesting, creative, and talented people in the birding universe. Bill was a master-interviewer and producer, making these 88 episodes of This Birding Life a podcast you won’t want to miss! Since Bill’s death in March 2019, two additional episodes were produced, but this podcast is no longer being produced. It’s Bill’s legacy, Bill’s voice, and Bill’s vision. We know you’ll enjoy every episode.
#2: Out There with the Birds

In 2018, Bill Thompson III and Ben Lizdas launched our second podcast, Out There with the Birds, featuring birdy conversation between these two charming and knowledgeable birding rock stars. They achieved a milestone of 50 episodes before Bill’s passing in 2019, but we are happy to affirm that this podcast lives on! We now feature an all-women power-team of hosts, including Wendy Clark, publisher of BWD; Dawn Hewitt, editor; and Kelly Ball, sales director. There is no shortage of wit or whimsy with this crew, and they will be sure to keep you entertained and informed. Out There with the Birds has adopted a format similar to that of Bill’s original podcast, This Birding Life. When you tune in you will hear fascinating interviews with engaging birders, conservationists, and industry leaders from around the world.

#3: BirdSense

As passionate birders, our staff at Bird Watcher’s Digest and Redstart Birding understands the difficulty of choosing birding optics, gear, products, events, tours, and even music that is tailor-made for you, the niche birder. In July 2020, BirdSense will be our third original podcast, created especially for common-sense birders seeking an uncommon experience. We will review the latest and greatest products, personalities, and places that birders won’t want to miss as they continue to improve their skills and enhance their birding lifestyle! If you subscribe before we launch this brand-new podcast in July, we’ll notify you when each episode is available.

#4: The Author’s Spotlight

Are you aware that our flagship publication, Bird Watcher’s Digest, features “read-aloud” articles by our veteran columnists in every issue? We have more than 100 articles from the past decade that have been beautifully read, recorded, and archived for your listening pleasure. Like an audible book, you can listen to your favorite BWD columnists as you drive, work, or go about your busy, birdy life. We decided to put these great stories in a podcast format so that you can enjoy them whether you’re at home or on the go! You’ll hear stories written and read aloud by Julie Zickefoose, Alvaro Jaramillo, and Al Batt.
